Sperian's Biosystems PosiChek3 computerized SCBA test bench has been the industry standard for thousands of fire departments, refineries, chemical plants and nuclear power stations worldwide since it was first introduced in 1988. Biosystems PosiChek³ verifies SCBA "fitness" for use:

A properly maintained SCBA must be capable of meeting basic NIOSH / NFPA performance requirements. Unfortunately, given the hard usage that SCBA receive, performance can sometimes "slip". NFPS 1852 mandates that all compliant SCBA must be tested on a calibrated breathing machine before being put into service and at least once per year thereafter. Unless SCBA are regularly tested to verify proper performance, a loss of function may not be noticed until after an accident has occurred. The PosiChek³ automatically determines the operational fitness of an SCBA by means of a series of dynamic tests and functional checks. PosiChek³ testers quantitatively determine whether the current performance of an SCBA meets NIOSH and NFPA requirements. Regular PosiChek³ testing ensures that SCBA which require maintenance are identified and taken out of service before an accident occurs, not after. 

Testing is easy and automatic:

All you need to do is attach the fully-assembled SCBA to be tested to the PosiChek³ test-head, and choose the tests you wish to conduct. The Complete SCBA Test provides a comprehensive evaluation of the SCBA as required b NFPA 1852.

PosiChek³ "Quick Test" evaluates fully assembled SCBA in less than 2-minutes: The "Quick Test" performance testing cycle consumes less than 1% of your air supply, and evaluates fully-assembled SCBA in less than 2-minutes! Because so little air is consumed, you can test an SCBA without needing to refill the cylinder before you put it back into service. 

Enhanced Precision (EP) Transducer and Sound Detection System (SDS)

The Enhanced Precision (EP) High Pressure Transducer has been standard issue with every new PosiChek³ sold since March, 2004. The EP transducer was developed to keep pace with new test standards that are being adopted by the SCBA manufacturing community in an effort to improve user safety. The EP Transducer gives a more precise measurement of pressure within the high pressure manifold during testing.

At the same time, the "Sound Detection System" (SDS) was also introduced as an option. The SDS includes a microphone and all necessary hardware to eliminate human interaction during the primary audible alarm test. EP transducer and SDS are available as an upgrade for PosiChek³ that are not equipped with these features. In order to accept the SDS upgrade, the PosiChek must already have the the EP upgrade.

Biosystems PosiChek³ uses your personal computer to run the tests,store the results, and print repo rts documenting SCBA performance. PosiChek³ software is available in generic and manufacturers specific versions, including Drager, Interspiro, ISI, MSA, Scott, and Survivair.

PosiChek³ Calibration Requirements:

To maintain accuracy and NIST traceability, the PosiChek³ must be calibrated annually. Before returning the PosiChek³ to Sperian Instrumentation - Biosystems, it is important to call the factory first to obtain a Return Authorization (RA) number. When calling have the serial numbers and details of any problems being encountered, if any. The number to call in the US is 1-800-711-6776 and select the service option "7".

Shipping the PosiChek³ for Annual Calibration

The PosiChek Annual Service Fee includes return shipping anywhere in the United States. PosiCheks shipped outside of the United States are subject to additional freight, duty and tax fees and are subject to export laws. The PosiChek Annual Service Fee does not cover the cost of instrument upgrades, nor does it cover damage or defects caused by abuse, improper packaging, alterations or unauthorized repairs.

Effective January 1, 2008, Sperian Instruments has implemented a "No Haggle Annual Service Plan" that includes calibration, return shipping in the United States, insurance AND any maintenance-related repairs needed by the PosiChek³. Please call or e-mail inquiries for the current pricing.

Although the PosiChek³ is built to last, it also includes precision components that are designed to detect minute pressure variations. It is important to properly package the PosiChek³ for return shipment to Sperian Instrumentation. The PosiChek³ is delivered in special cartons that are designed to protect it from damage during transit. Save the shipping cartons and use them when returning the PosiChek³ to Sperian Instrumentation for annual calibration.
